Three

OH. MY.
What to do.
M is three!

Madelyn,
Your mommy and daddy still cannot get over the fact that you turned three today!
We love the fact that you are growing and learning so much,
but it boggles our mind to see it happening all so quickly.

You are kind, creative, sensitive, timid.
You like to watch and listen.
You like to try things all by yourself.
You stick your  tongue out when you are working on something like your daddy.
You stick out your tongue out of nervousness or shyness towards situations and others.

You love to build with blocks, play with cars and take care of babies.
You love to do school work.
You love to use your hands whether it's helping mommy in the kitchen,
playing with playdough or coloring.

You are picky.
You get really grumpy when you are tired or hungry.
You are so very much unique and different in the way you do and see things.
I hope you always see that as a positive and never
try to change or mold to fit in better.

You make friends easily because you are perfect in every which way.
You are patient.
You let others go first.
You try to help others by showing and teaching.

But you also have a hard time finding new friends because of your timidness
and the 'grown up' way you play.
You don't understand child play interaction as well as others might.

You have a wild imagination and don't mind playing by yourself.
You love to play with your cousins, but understand when it's time to go home.
You still adore Goosey girl and always tell me how you love Goosey.
But Liam is your man.
He is your pal.
You two play so well together even though you fight like siblings sometimes.
And you are so inquisitive of Baby Jo.
You are always asking if she will be there and telling me how Jo can do this now
or you want to show Jo how to do that.
You adore all three cousins and I am so thankful for that.

You are a free thinker.
But you also like to stick by the book.
You like to tell others what to do-
especially if they aren't doing it right.
You like to do things your own way
and it may not always make the most sense or be correct,
but it doesn't matter-
at least not yet.

We love you more than anything in this world!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy

It's Time for a Party...

A carnival themed party!
Just don't expect any real clowns at this one.

Madelyn Claire,
can I just say your party was a huge hit.
By both kids and adults.
We had carnival games and a bounce house all set up in the backyard.
It was a bit hot even though we tried our best to provide as much shading as possible,
that's just how it goes with an August birthday in Georgia though.

We probably could have gotten away with just the bounce house,
but then your momma wouldn't have been able to enjoy all the other birthday party shopping and decorating.

Thanks to all of Madelyn's family and friends who were able to come and celebrate our big girl with us!
(and to my sister who helped snap these photos for her birthday!)
(and to the Robbins for coming early to help me get everything set up!)

You were a hot mess and exhausted at this point.

Birthday Doozie Cookies instead of cupcakes made for a special surprise!

Madelyn's friends.

And yes, according to Madelyn it was the Best Day Ever!

First Dentist Visit

You were nervous.
Who wouldn't be.
Random people looking at you, calling your name, looking in your mouth,
random tools in your mouth, etc...

I'd be nervous too...oh, wait. I still am when I go.
I don't care for the dentist much.
I hope to change that outlook for you.

You cried to hold daddy's hand the whole time which melted my heart.
You loved getting to pick out your own princess toothbrush
and special surprises for being such a good girl.

You were such a big girl and we are so proud of you for being so brave!

The dentist gave us some great advice for the paci situation...
you still take a paci to go to sleep.
Luckily he said no worries.
Your mouth looked great and his kids took a paci until they were three.
Phew.

We have a few tips for how to wean you from it and
we plan on using his advice over the next coming months.
Fingers are crossed!

American Doll Store

For Madelyn's birthday Nana took her to the American Doll Store...
of course I tagged along.

Madelyn was in heaven walking around and feeding all the baby dolls,
petting all of their puppy friends and trying to find a doll of her own.

She was a little overwhelmed as well.
I was too!
I had never been to the American Doll Store, so
this was a first for me as well.

We took a break to go take a ride on the carousel and then we returned to
officially pick out which doll you wanted and have afternoon tea at the Bistro.

Thanks Nana and Papa for spoiling our girl rotten!
