I will begin with sharing this sweet face:
And now, to the title of my post- Money Saving Items...
1. A Crib- SERIOUSLY!
I was so excited to find her a beautiful crib that fit all of my criteria and at a reasonable price.
That was one item I knew I would not buy gently borrowed.
Too much riding on safety there.
Does she use her crib?
Yes.
Is it beautiful?
Yes.
Does it convert into a toddler bed and more?
Yes
Does she sleep just as happy in it as she does her Pack n' Play?'
Yes.
Was the Pack n' Play much cheaper?
Absolutely.
If I were to do it again I seriously would not get a crib.
Sshhh! Don't tell my husband.
I would have just put a regular bed in her room and had her Pack n' Play in there as well.
Would have saved A LOT of money.
2. Clothes- again, SERIOUSLY.
I know you can't resist.
I could hardly either, BUT there are plenty of consignment stores, sales, goodwill, friends, etc...
You don't have to shop at GAP and spend $30 on one shirt.
Plus Grandma's LOVE to buy things for the little one and you will get plenty from them.
I was lucky enough to have a sister who gave me pretty much all of her daughter's clothes which of course helped keep me from shopping too much.
What I did notice, especially while they are little, they grow so fast that some of the clothes you have they end up wearing once...if at all!
Save your money!
Shop for things you need.
Like diapers, and wipes, and baby food!
I seriously ONLY shop consignment, sales, and goodwill.
There is nothing wrong with gently used clothes,
and you can find some pretty cute gently used clothes out there.
3. Diapers- I know, doesn't make sense...
I did not want to do the whole reusable diaper thing.
Not for me.
Those of you who can do it I applaud you.
So, for those who are like me and go with disposables...
Find the right diaper!
Just like you want to find the right panty that feels good and fits right, so does your little one.
And if you find the right diaper you will save a lot of money.
How will you know if it's the wrong diaper?
You will be changing a lot more diapers.
You will have many, many leaks...
and that, my friend, is not fun.
It took us a while to find the right diaper for our bebe, and sometimes we still try out the wrong thing.
At night we use LUVS Leakguards.
Love these.
My sister recommended these for us because we were having leaks almost every night.
Madelyn was sleeping through the night, which is great, but when she got up she would always be wet or poopy on her clothes for not being changed for so long while sleeping.
And why wake a sleeping baby, right?
So, we started using LUVS Leakguards.
Like magic, no more leaks at night.
During the day we used to love Pampers, but I refuse to buy these now because they are a rip off.
We used them while she was little because the Swaddlers are the best, but now that she is older we don't need them.
Huggies Snug and Dry were my next favorite,
but I have really been on a hunt for an off brand to save all that dough.
I have used Up and Up (Target brand), Parent's Choice (Wal-Mart brand), Walgreen's brand, etc...
Lately I have been drawn to the Walgreen's brand.
They have great deals on these and have been working just fine lately on the bebe.
4. Baby Food
Just like diapers, find the right baby food that your little one WILL eat.
Madelyn has gone through many different stages with this.
We have come to find she does not like any baby food passed Stage 2.
Stage 3 gets textured and she refuses to eat it.
For a while there we couldn't get her to eat ANY baby food and this bothered me because I knew this was where she was getting all of her nutrients.
She can't just eat Nilla Wafers all day.
We found that she likes the squeeze pouches.
And guess what- they are the most expensive!
Of course.
Most squeeze pouches I have found are Organic, which is wonderful,
but the price is around $1.50 for ONE!
She eats three of these a day.
Luckily they go on sale usually about $1.00 a piece and we stock up.
I also just recently bought her a reusable squeeze pouch so I can fill it with whatever baby food we buy,
Now, we can fill it with whatever we like and whatever baby food we buy.
We aren't sure if she loves this kind because she gets to feed herself and feel like a big girl or because the flavors are delicious- no joke, try it.
I would buy these for me and eat them.
This is all I'm going to hit on for now, but maybe one day I'll hit this topic again.
I will leave you with this happy face:
